Shanghai | K-12 International School | Senior Leadership Role

A K-12 international school in Shanghai is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Secondary / School Principal to lead its Secondary School division. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a candidate with strong international curriculum experience, a proven record of school improvement and the ability to inspire teachers, students and the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership across the Secondary School
  • Lead curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, assessment, and student progress
  • Support international curriculum delivery, including IB, IGCSE, A-Level, AP, or similar frameworks
  • Recruit, mentor, support, and evaluate secondary teaching staff
  • Build a collaborative and high-performing professional learning culture
  • Oversee student wellbeing, pastoral care, behaviour, and safeguarding expectations
  • Manage Secondary School operations, including timetables, examinations, events, and academic planning
  • Strengthen communication and partnerships with parents and the wider school community
  • Represent the Secondary School in leadership meetings, parent events, and external school activities

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master degree in Education, Educational Leadership or related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of secondary teaching experience
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of IB, IGCSE, A-Level, AP or similar international curricula
  • Proven ability to improve student outcomes and support teacher development
  • International school experience
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong intercultural awareness and leadership presence
  • Leadership certification such as NPQH or IB leadership training preferred
  • Accreditation experience such as CIS, WASC or NEASC preferred
