Overview

A well-known K-12 British international school in Guangzhou is seeking an experienced Director of Studies to lead whole-school academic strategy, curriculum quality, assessment systems and student achievement. This is a senior academic leadership role for an experienced international school leader with strong knowledge of British and international curricula.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead whole-school academic strategy in collaboration with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team
  • Oversee curriculum quality, teaching standards, assessment systems, and student achievement
  • Support the delivery of a balanced curriculum for bilingual learners across Primary and Secondary
  • Ensure curriculum alignment with IGCSE, IB, A-Level, and Chinese examination pathways
  • Develop whole-school assessment, tracking, and academic data systems
  • Monitor student progress and use data to guide interventions and curriculum improvement
  • Lead academic quality assurance, benchmarking, and school improvement planning
  • Support teacher recruitment, staff development, performance management, and retention
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, professional learning, and excellent teaching practice
  • Contribute to school marketing, admissions, enrolment growth, and parent engagement
  • Represent the school professionally with staff, parents, prospective families, and wider stakeholders

Requirements & Qualifications

  • University degree, preferably an Honours degree
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Further degree in education or educational leadership preferred
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Strong experience in school leadership, academic strategy, and curriculum development
  • Deep understanding of IB and A-Level, with awareness of Chinese National Curriculum integration
  • Experience with school improvement, assessment systems, quality assurance, and student performance tracking
  • Ability to work at both strategic and operational levels
  • Strong understanding of international school environments
  • Experience managing teams, leading change, and developing teaching staff
  • Confident communicator with strong parent-facing and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness, including enrolment growth, budgeting, and school promotion
  • Commitment to the wider life of the school, including events and after-school activities
